Redbot at Soundwalk 2009
Posted by Jon, onehumanbeing on October 3, 2009

Your host, Jon, onehumanbeing, along with his beautiful wife Tania and her family, had a great time at the Soundwalk this evening in the Art’s District of downtown LB.
One installation that really impressed me was a guy sweeping the sidewalk with his broom hooked to a microphone that got fed through some effects and then played back to headphones attached to the sweepers waist.
A very straight-forward piece — just grab some headphones and tune in to the wonder of sweeping sounds… seemed like something Wayne from The Flaming Lips would use on-stage. Unfortunately I don’t know the name of the artist crew that did this piece.
Another cool piece was by a crew called HOLLOW BODIES that created a mesmerizing sound blend with numerous effects, tape machines and interactive sound boards — met Nolan from this crew — would love to see more of their work…
The piece that Tania, Derek (Tania’s brother) and I wish we could have stayed longer at was the piece by the Hop-Frog Kollectiv that was a 5 hour spiritual cleansing mediation of sound performed in a U-Haul truck in a parking lot — if you like long meditative drones that get under the skin and into the supernatural frequencies you would have loved this piece…

Several Redbots got posted along the way…

…and I got to give away a number of the special edition buttons that I’ve made to celebrate Long Beach arts and artists this month…

I’ll be carrying a supply of buttons with me this month — so hit me up for a freebie if you see me around — one of my great joys is giving away my buttons…
